Star our Border collie Pup - Part 2

Star doing Flyball
As promised, I said that I would keep you informed of Stars progress so here is part two.
Â
Star started his first obedience show in March 2009 at the tender age of 22 months. Â I took my time with his training ensuring that his motivation in the ring would be my priority. Well it worked I finished 6th in his first Novice class with an entry of 57 dogs, I was on such a high but then what happens next! Would I go up or down?
Well there was only one way, UP! His keenness in the ring was just brilliant, a young dog loving his work.
This year he has won 16 rosettes which were 2nd’s, 3rd’s, 4th’s, 5th’s and 6th’s.
On top of those were two wins in Novice, winning a run off at Huddersfield gaining him entry into the higher classes of A and B. I relaxed after these wins and built up his drive and confidence in the ring, often being too keen.
I do not want to lose that drive and so I am now training him for the higher classes, but let’s not forget his fly ball training! He has a keen eye for those tennis balls and it makes him buzz. He will hold two tennis balls at once and up to five fling rings, so what will happen in fly ball if he fetches two balls back, I am sure I will just laugh.
A point to you all never put a young dog in the ring until it is ready and your dog understands his job. I will not show Star again until next year in obedience and hope to get him fly ball ready in our second team under our captain Neil Lyons.
I hope you have been following our fly ball results on this blog, what an unbelievable start we have had, but that’s another story.
I will keep you all informed of Stars progress.
Good luck to you all with your dogs.
